is
a group of five young musicians, who are actively engaged with Medieval
music and that of the Renaissance. Their work however, is also focused
on Contemporary music and on finding the connection between the elements
of Early and Contemporary music.
Katharina
Lugmayr, Maja Osojnik and Thomas List, who play the recorder founded the
ensemble while still in the midst of their studies with Hans Maria
Kneihs at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. They
expanded their knowledge by partaking in further studies and master
courses with Matthias Weilenmann, Pedro Memelsdorff, Dan Laurin, Kees
Boeke, Gerd Lünenbürger and Han Tol. In the last few years the cast of
the ensemble has grown, as two new members, Agnes Heginger, a jazz
singer and Eva Reiter, a viola da gamba and recorder player joined the
trio. In year 2007 a new singer, a beautiful soprano Theresa Dlouhy
replaces Agnes Heginger.
While composing their concert programs, the musicians pay special
attention to forming a connection between the virtuoso compositions and
sensual, subtlest music, which they passionately interpret on their
historical instruments.
Their
highly active and numerous performances have led the ensemble to appear
in concerts in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Poland and Italy as well as
at Vienna Recorder Days (Wiener Blockflötentagen) and “Hörgängen”
in the “Wiener Konzerthaus”, the ISCM World-Music-Days 2003, at the
Festival of Early music in Brezice (Slovenia), the Festival di Musica
Antica in Bolzano (Italy), the Festival Aqua Musica in Amsterdam/Netherlands,
the Festival Laus Polipholiae in Antwerp/Belgium and the Festival
Wratislavia Cantans in Polen.
Ensemble
MIKADO is the winner of the international competition IYAP-EM 2004
(International Young Artists´ Presentation - Early Music) in Antwerp,
Belgium.
